Second-year pluridisciplinary engineering project: a 70 cm RC monohull with a water cannon. Led the full electronic architecture — H-bridge motor control, FPGA logic, propulsion system selection.
Context
Second-year pluridisciplinary engineering project (PP4) at ICAM Toulouse. The client brief called for a 70 cm monohull radio-controlled boat equipped with a 12V motor capable of projecting water at least 60 cm. Two consecutive teams across two semesters conceptualized and then built the prototype.
Team
- Esteban Catteau — Hull
- Inès Verniol — Assembly
- Étienne Caujolle — Remote Control
- Gautier Gérardin — Mobility
- Ori Dhumez-Biagi — Electronics
My Contribution
- Designed the complete electronic architecture: motor control via H-bridge, FPGA-based logic, autonomous / remote-control mode selection
- Led propulsion system selection (motor, propeller shaft, propeller) and performed autonomy calculations
- Defined the general electronic diagram and validated propulsion, direction, and mode selection tests
Technical Highlights
- Hull modeled and manufactured in SolidWorks (thermoforming + 3D printing + gluing)
- FPGA logic for remote control and mode switching
- Stability and buoyancy calculations validated against waterline targets
- Budget and project tracked via Gantt, OBS / PBS / WBS
Outcome
Functional prototype delivered at the end of Year 2. All required functions validated: buoyancy, movement, water-throw, and remote control.
